October 2019

October is one of those months when the weather can be wonderful or just down right cold.
To mitigate the potential weather problems, Copper Hills headed back to our roots for full hook ups and an indoor club house. We camped at Weed Heights from October 16th through the 19th. Our trail bosses were Marty, Harry and Nancy and boy did they keep us busy for four (4) days.
Nancy had a painting class that produced some great paintings by several of our club members, which were on display for the whole week in the club house.
On Thursday, we had a big spaghetti feed and everyone was encouraged to dress up in a halloween costumes. Our members went all out and the results were humorously scary.
On Friday, Marty arranged for everyone to build plastic pop bottle rockets in the morning and then launch them in the afternoon. As Marty explained, while we were building our rockets, creativity was the key. We had rockets with sharp nose cones, rockets with blunt nose cones, rockets with detachable nose cones that contained parachutes, rockets with different fin designs and each rocket was decorated with each team members own imagination.
In the afternoon, Mar ty was the Launch Director. He gave an extensive safety talk and then his daughter Denise acted as his Assistant Launch Director. After the chapter members fueled their rockets with H2O and 60 pounds of air pressure, Denise then helped them mount the rockets on the launch tube. After the rockets were secured to the launch tube, Marty along with everyone else, conducted a countdown to launch. Janet and Judi were selected as judges to determine which teams rockets flew the highest. There was a lot of good natured competition among the various team members, but in the end it was just plain fun. (Thank you Marty)
The camp out, also included three new visiting rigs, Hank and Tana, Judi and Ed, and Bill and Mary. It was fun to have them at our campout and join us in our numerous activities.
The trail bosses also asked everyone to bring a picture of their favorite pet. We passed the pictures around and each couple was asked to tell a short story about the picture and their pet.
As the week progressed, the weather turned a little colder each day. By Sunday it was time to leave and head home.
Thank You Marty, Nancy and Harry for a great time.
