June 2019

June saw the club return to Cold Springs Station (60 miles east of Fallon on highway 50) after many years. The RV park is under new ownership and George and Barbara were accommodating hosts.
The RV park is located near many old ghost towns and mining districts. During our stay, we visited four ghost towns in two separate mining districts, went to Ichthyosaur State Park near Berlin, Nevada, and had lunch at Middlegate (several members again ordered their monster hamburger).
When we were not touring ghost towns, several members went to the pistol range for some target practice and took advantage of George’s trap shooting range to shoot clay pigeons.
One evening we played bingo and exchanged many white elephant gifts as people won at bingo. Late afternoon on Friday, following our monthly meeting, we enjoyed smoked tri tip roast as part of a buffet provided by our hosts. The cost was $12 per person for the complete buffet.
After coming back from Ichthyosaur State Park, an attempt was made by our membership to construct models of some ghost town buildings. We made a jail, a saloon, and a miner’s cabin.
We had a special celebration for Paul and Mary. They supplied banana splits to celebrate 53 years of marriage. When asked what their secret to success was Paul answered “to always say, yes Mary”.
Before celebrating Paul and Mary’s anniversary we played in a Mexican Train tournament. The winners were Mike D. and Janet G.
