May 2019

In May, Copper Hills chapter, decided to return to our chapter roots and campout at Weed Heights. The Copper Hills name originates from several founding members living in the Yerington/ Weed Heights area. The name was adopted because of the association with the Anaconda Mine, which was a large producer of copper when it was operating. Hence the name Copper Hills.
Our campout started May 7th and ended May 10th with 13 rigs attending, which included one guest (Mary). After the warm weather we experienced in April at Quincy, the windy, cool temperatures at Weed Heights caught everyone by surprise. However, the weather did not slow anyone down. The trail bosses, Leslie and Marv, kept us busy for the whole week.
There were games galore, but only one Mexican train tournament with a $1.00 buy in (Kelvin and Dean were the big winners). Several members tried their hand at miniature golf and some tried a new outdoor game of shuffleboard. The shuffleboard game was fun, but it took several tries before everyone figured out the rules. It seems, we discovered that Marv and Alan have a hidden talent for the game. They played on a team together and won most of their games (everyone succumbed to their superior playing skills).
On Thursday morning, Leslie and Marv hosted a gourmet breakfast of pancakes and sausages. By the time everyone was finished eating, the total ambition for most everyone was just to sit and not move for at least an hour. The pancakes were light and fluffy and the sausages were browned to perfection and the rest of the potluck breakfast dishes not only complimented the main course, but added to the culinary experience (nothing like great food to start a perfect day).
Since Mother’s Day was on Sunday, Leslie and Marv invited everyone to a Mother’s Day cake and ice cream social (it was a nice treat, appreciated by all).
